Smsts
There are a number of Site Management Safety Training Schemes in operation around the country and they help managers or supervisors to ensure that health and safety is being adhered to whilst workers are on site. Delegates can attend the courses in block periods or they can take part in courses on a day release basis. On a typical Smsts the delegate will be taught about The Health and Safety at Work Act and all the relevant regulations which relate to workers who are on site. Specific topics that are covered on the course might include making risk assessments and providing method statements. The set up of the site will be a crucial part of the Smsts as will items like erecting scaffolding. Sections about electricity on site will be covered as will details on excavations and demolition. Normally the training is conducted on a classrroom basis with presentations and videos about the relevant subject matter. Block bookings can be arranged for companies that have a number of site supervisors, or the courses can be attended by a sole representative from their company. At the end of the Smsts the delegates will be presented with a certificate to prove that they have attended all of the classes and have learnt a wealth of invaluable information.

Fire Marshall Training
Responsible employers ensure that certain members of their workforce are trained in all aspects of health and safety. Issues like fire awareness need to be addressed so that staff can react in a positive way should a fire break out at work. Appointing a few fire marshals will be a good idea and they can attend Fire Marshall Training courses. Whilst on the Fire Marshall Trainiing courses your staff members will learn everything they need to know about fires. How fires start and how they progress will be just some of the key features on the course. It`s important for the workers on the Fire Marshall Training courses to be able to know how their colleagues will react when faced by fires. Human behaviour is another topic that`s addressed as part of the Fire Marshall Training. Evacuation techniques will be another key feature so the appointed marshalls can help their fellow workers to safety in a controlled manner, should the unthinkable happen. When faced with fires the fire marshalls will be able to remain calm and put their training into action. Hopefully they`ll never have to use the skills they have acquired as part of their Fire Marshall Training but they`ll be ready to put them to the test should a fire break out.

Compulsive Overeating
I think of myself as being a normal type of eater who has three square meals a day. Occasionally I might over-indulge with my eating at certain times of the year and Christmas immediately springs to mind as one of the main culprits. However, I know I haven`t got a problem with eating and I certainly don`t obsess about my weight. Therefore, I find it hard to imagine what it must be like for someone who suffers from a Compulsive Overeating disorder. Eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia are often attributed to Compulsive Overeating. People suffering from these conditions will tend to binge eat and then purge their bodies afterwards by self-induced vomiting of the use of enemas. A deep-rooted fear of gaining weight coupled to a self-loathing of the body can leave a patient feeling utterly miserable. They often don`t know where to turn to if they want to seek help and can feel ashamed, so they decide to keep their condition a secret. Help isn`t far away though for anyone with Compulsive Overeating problems and clinics are available on an in or outpatient basis for people with eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia. I`m lucky, I haven`t got a problem with my eating or the way that I perceive my body but I know certain people do and they need to seek professional help to treat their life-threatening illnesses.
